Pots and Pans
In the region of Maramures in Romania, most of the people still wear traditional clothes and old traditions are found important. So when a family has a doughter who is reaching the age to get married, this is made known to the village and beyond by hanging (mostly colourful) pots and pans in a tree in front of the house.

Ride the way it feels good
OAlthough this is a guided group tour , we thinkt it is important that everyone remains free to ride his/her own speed and do what he/she like withing the organised itinerary, as long as time is sufficient. Also regarding the route this means that everyone is free not to stick to the routes we prepared, again as long as we'll see you back at the end of the day.

Short Itinerary
Day 1 > Regensburg
It takes two days to travel to Budapest in Hungary. We start today with app. 645 km.
Day 2 > Budapest
We'll ride through Austria to Budapest, where we will stay for two nights and have one day to visit this beautiful city. Distance app. 650 km

3 > Budapest
Time to visit Budapest
Day 4 > Tokaj
Hungary is easy to travel through. We'll end op close to the Romanian border.

Day 5 > Sighet
We head into the Carpathians and havethe chance to visit a very special joyfull cemetery.

Day 6 > Sighisoara
Today we'll ride through many farm villages, past churches and monasteries to Sighisoara, the birthplace of Count Dracula.

Day 7 > Brasov
It's only a short distance to Brasov, but there many much longer route options. Brasov is a very nice small town and worth to visit.

Day 8 > Alexandria
Today we'll ride over the South Carpathians and the Bran pass (1290m).

Day 9 > Lovec
We'll ride through the Donaudelta today and cross the border into Bulgaria. The deltalandscape is rather flat and there are a lot of birds.

Day 10 > Velingrad
It's a nice ride to Velingrad. We ride through the Stara Planina and the Sredna Gora mountains.

Day 11 > Mezdra
The Naroden Park Rila has some unknown mountain peaks. We'll ride through the mountains, passing Bulgaria's xcapital towards Mezdra.

12 > Craiova
We'll leave Bulgaria today. The river Donau is the border. The landsape will be rather flat again. Those who wish to make a detour and ride along the river Donau can do so.

13 > Sibiu
We'll cross over the South Carpathians again, with possibly part of the road unpaved (there is an alternative). Our hotel is a bit out of Sibiu.

Time for Sibiu an/or surroundings.

Today we'll have a nice ride along the foothills of the Carpathias towards Oradea.

Time to leave Romania. Hungary will be easy going again and we'll know where to go in Budapest.

The joyful cemetery
The crosses on this joyful cemetery are made out of wood and painted very colourfully. The paintings tell about the lives and sometimes also the death of the deseased. There are many women weaving and knitting, man who ride a tractor or work the land. Also many males are portraited being drunk or died in car accidents. |
