Going West
If your country borders the sea, it's pretty obvious that you either will leave or return by boat/airplane.
We choose to leave that way for a number of reasons.
One is that North America and Australia are western countries and this way we will travel 'further' culture-wise as well.
It's also nice to know that we will travel along with time and thus upon return will be one day older as we have lived.

Fuelling up

USA
We will take off in late-summer and will ride through the USA and Canada in fall-time. The Adirondacks in Upstate New York is known for it's beautifull Indian Summer and we are going to enjoy that.
Plan is to go to the Niagara waterfalls and enter Canada there, to explore the areas of the Great lakes. Further east we will ride through the Rocky Mountains and visit some National Parks, like Yellowstone NP, Yosemite NP and Death Valley. We're going to Las Vegas before heading to Los Angeles, from where we will take off to Australia.

Australia
We will enter Australia in Perth and like to explore the beautiful coastline before going off the beaten track into the Outback towards Ayers Rock, Alice Springs and the great King's Canyon.
The lesser known Western Australia is pure and rough and the spring season is the best time to be there. We plan to ride to Darwin and through the Kimberleys towards Broom. This is the land of the Aboriginals. We'll follow the coastline south, passing a lesser known coral reef and riding through great landscapes back to Perth, where we will airfreight ourselves and our bikes to Nepal.

Nepal/India
In Nepal the nights will already be quite cold when we arrive, but the days can be really pleasant. Kathmandu is a very interresting city to visit. Many streets show many contrasts and made us think of Charles Dicken's stories.
The Himalayas cannot be crossed in many places by motorcycle. We can visit Pokhara and see the top of the Ana Purna. After that we will travel south towards Varanassi in India, where the pelgrims wash themselves in the holy river Ganges. We will travel on to Khujeraho with the erotic temples and go to Khana National Park (Kipling wrote Jungle Book here). Of course we also want to see the Taj Mahal and the Golden Temple in Amritsar, before we cross the border into Pakistan.

Pakistan
We will choose our route through Pakistan when we are there, depending on the situation. It's possible that we will cross the country as soon as possible.

Iran
Same goes for Iran. It's a beautiful country where we really felt good when we travelled here in 2000. Iran has ages old, very rich cultures. The Persians traded their good all over the world. Who travels to Iran should visit Esfahan with it's grand Blue Mosk and 33 arches bridge and that's what we intent to do. We'd like to go to Shiraz and Bam (too bad that the citadel was destroyed in an earthquake). Teheran is also an impressive (and busy) city with wide tree-lined lanes. From Teheran we will head north, through a canyon towards the Kaspian Sea and west towards Turkey

Turky
In Turky winter will have started. We'll choose our route depending on the weather.

Syria
When possible we would like to visit Syria, with it's great Temple site Petra and the oldest still functioning capital city in the world, Damascus.

Europe
The route through Europe will depend on the weather and the amount of time we will have left.

The route may change
Like on any world tour, also here it is possible that the route will change. We choose our destinations and put a red line on the world map, but do not want to become a slave of our own plans.
In America and Australia it's not so hard to plan our route, but from Nepal onwards we will travel the way it feels good.
